대부분의 수활액 낭종 또는 낭성 림프관종은 선천적인 양성의 림프관 기형이며 주로 두ㆍ경부 주위에서 발생한다. 이 질병의 경과는 발견된 시기, 동반된 염색체 이상이나 선천적 기형의 여부, 종괴의 크기나 침습의 깊이에 따라 다르다. 종괴는 대개의 경우 천천히 자라나지만 간혹 작아지거나 자연적으로 소실되는 경우도 있고 반대로 급격한 성장을 보이는 경우도 있다. 그러므로 수활액 낭종 또는 낭성 림프관종이 발견되었을 경우 태아는 동반된 염색체 이상이나 선천적 기형의 유무, 종괴의 크기와 침습의 깊이 및 이것의 변화양상을 파악하는 것이 산전, 출산직후 혹은 출생이후의 질병의 치료 방법 및 예후를 결정하는 데에 있어서 중요하다. 산전 자기 공명 영상 장치는 종괴의 침습 범위 및 손상의 정도를 태아의 위치에 관계 없이 파악하는 데에 특이 유용할 수 있다. 우리는 태아의 수활액 낭종이 산전 초음파 및 자기 공명 영상 장치에 의해 평가된 후 성공적인 출생을 경험한 신생아 1 예에 대하여 보고하는 바이다.

Most cystic hygroma or fetal cystic lymphangiomas are congenital non-malignant malformations of lymphatic vessels,
usually occurring around the head and neck region. Their prognoses differ according to the time of detection, associated
chromosomal anomaly, congenital malformation, and size and invasion depth of the mass. They are usually slow-growing
but, infrequently, can resolve or shrink spontaneously. However, rapid growth may occur, as well. Cystic hygroma found by
antenatal ultrasonography can grow larger and have poorer prognosis. So cystic hygroma must be thoroughly evaluated
whether there are associated chromosomal anomalies or congenital malformation, how large and deep it is, and its natural
progression, to predict prognosis and to plan a treatment. Antenatal MRI can especially be useful in evaluating cystic
hygroma. We report one case in which fetal cystic hygroma was evaluated by ultrasonography and MRI and was successfully
managed conservatively.
