Fetal growth restriction (FGR) is associated with high perinatal mortality and
morbidity. In the fields of obstetrics, Doppler ultrasound plays a major role in
proper assessment and management of FGR. It is appropriate to understand
pathophysiology and hemodynamics of FGR prior to clinical application of Doppler
velocimetry. Physicians have to keep in mind that FGR has variety of mechanisms,
and manifests different courses according to the time of onset. Based on these
backgrounds, this article will briefly review methods, hemodynamics and clinical
applications regarding Doppler velocimetries for various vessels, and will
introduce new concepts of FGR and tools to evaluate growth-restricted fetuses.
